Lockheed Martin announced on 21 November that it has completed manufacturing the first international F-35 Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) aircraft: a short take-off/vertical landing (STOVL) F-35B-variant test platform known as BK-1. The aircraft came off the assembly line on 20 November and is destined for the UK, where it will be used for initial operational tests and evaluation (IOT&E) purposes. The aircraft will next undergo complete finishing and functional fuel system checks before being transported to the flight line for ground and flight-tests prior to handover in April 2012.
