摘要

Pakistan's no-show, post2014 funding and the West's commitment to Afghanistan were the key topics of the second Bonn Conference on Afghanistan that was held on 5 December. Afghan President Hamid Karzai opened the meeting by asking NATO to maintain its commitment after the planned withdrawal of most foreign combat troops in 2014. "Your continued solidarity, commitment and support will be crucial so that we can consolidate our gains and continue to address the challenges that remain," said Karzai. "We will need your steadfast support for at least another decade, training for our own troops, equipment for the army and police and help to set up state institutions." Delegations from 85 countries, 15 international organisations and the UN met in Bonn on the 10th anniversary of the first international conference on Afghanistan in the city. That conference established the foundations for the current Afghan political structure.
