Iran has refused to return to the US the Lockheed Martin RQ-170 Sentinel unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) it captured and put on show earlier in the month. Iranian Defence Minister Ahmad Vahidi reportedly declined a US request on 13 December for the UAV to be returned, saying it now belonged to Iran. The chairman of the Iranian parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, Alaed-din Boroujerdi, added that returning the RQ-170 "is out of the question", national media said. According to the state run Press TV, not only will Iran not return the RQ-170, but it is demanding an apology and compensation from the US for violating the country's airspace. While the US government and military have refused to comment in any detail on either the aircraft or its supposed capture by Iran, US media has reported President Barack Obama's direct request that the classified aircraft be returned. The president is said to have added that he was not expecting Iran's compliance in the matter.
