The US Air Force's (USAF's) top uniformed official said the development of the Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter has seen so much cost growth that it is likely to face a top-to-bottom government review that could result in dramatic restructuring or even cancellation.rnUSAF Chief of Staff General Norton Schwartz told reporters on 18 February that the F-35 programme is probably on the path to a Nunn-McCurdy breach. Such a breach occurs when a programme's acquisition costs rise significantly, triggering a Pentagon review of the programme and report to the US Congress on its status.
