The Argentine government has re-initiated contacts with Saab Aerospace that could lead to the procurement of at least two Saab 340 airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) aircraft, sources in Stockholm and Buenos Aires have told Jane's.rnThe two aircraft would be operated by the Argentine Air Force, to be used as an airspace surveillance system in peacetime and a command-and-control asset in times of crisis.rnThe Saab 340 and the Erieye surveillance radar are favoured on cost-effectiveness grounds. Four Saab 340B twin-engine turbo-prop commuter aircraft are already in service with LADE: a state-run passenger service for non-profitable routes that is operated by the Argentine Air Force.
