The US Department of Defense will submit a request for funds to build a new long-range bomber in Fiscal Year 2012 (FY12) and will invest more than USD1 billion to keep the industrial capacity alive in the meantime.rnPrincipal Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Policy Jim Miller said on 6 April that the Pentagon will make a decision on the family of systems - a bomber and perhaps some other airframes - that it will require for its long-range strike mission in time for the FY12 budget cycle.rn"We do have [research and development] under way and money set aside for these sets of capabilities that we will then propose [for] specific allocation in FY12," said Miller.
