The past year has been one of the most difficult in recent history for aerospace and defence (A&D) companies. Commercial financing, a major source of capital for the industry, is down between 20 and 40 per cent for 2009, according to financial services company Credit Suisse. In addition, the Aerospace Industry Association predicts that global air traffic will fall by 3-5 per cent in the short term.rnWith slowing growth, financial challenges, globalisation and an impending shortage of critical talent, there is little doubt that the industry has entered an era of volatility. To thrive in such turbulent times, A&D companies must transform by becoming more innovative, diverse and nimble. Doing so will position companies to achieve dramatic improvements in time-to-market efficiency and market responsiveness.
