While UK land and air components have naturally been the major beneficiaries of the UOR system in recent years, the Royal Navy (RN) has also benefited from a series of accelerated equipment acquisitions to support operations.rnThese have included the rapid development and introduction of mine-counter-measures equipment for clearance operations in the waters off southern Iraq in 2003; improved force protection and situational awareness fits for ships and submarines; and the provision of defensive aids fits for maritime rotorcraft operating in both the Gulf and Afghan theatres.rnHowever, the most high-profile UOR concerning naval equipment was the adaptation of a number (believed to be 10) of the RN's Raytheon Phalanx Block 1A anti-missile close-in weapon systems to serve in the counter-rocket, artillery, mortar (C-RAM) role in Basra.
