On 2-5 April the French Navy's latest warship, the 6,600-tonne Horizon-class frigate Chevalier Paul, took part in joint interoperability training with the Russian Northern Fleet in the Barents Sea.rnAfter docking at the Northern Fleet's main base on 30 March - an unprecedented visit by a NATO naval vessel in recent years - Chevalier Paul, together with Russian Udaloy-class anti-submarine destroyer Severo-morsk, conducted training in joint air defence, combat manoeuvring against maritime threats, operational communications and resupply at sea.rnThe unusual visit comes amid continuing controversy within NATO about growing defence links between the two countries, along with France's impending sale of Mistral-class amphibious command vessels and associated technology to Russia.
