The Indian Air Force (IAF) plans to gradually phase out its older MiG-21 Fishbed' ground attack fighters, many of which have been lost in accidents, Defence Minister A K Antony told parliament on 19 April.rn"The MiG-21 is a very old aircraft. It is now in the process of being phased out," said Antony.rnMiG-21 variants were inducted into the IAF from 1964 onwards, forming the backbone of its fighter squadrons. Between 1966 and 1984, India's state-owned Hindustan Aeronautics Limited in Bangalore built around 658 MiG-21 sin four different variants under licence.
