The Ukrainian parliament approved a deal on 27 April extending Russia's lease of the Sevastopol naval base, but there were violent scenes as clashes erupted between rival parliamentarians.rnThe agreement was ratified with 236 votes in the 450-seat parliament amid chaotic scenes as opposition and government members brawled and eggs were thrown at the Speaker. The deal has sparked controversy in a country that only recently was led by the pro-Western Viktor Yushchenko, who had called for the leasing arrangement to be scrapped.
