The last of the UK Royal Navy's (RN's) six Commando Sea King Mk 6CR helicopters (XZ922) was retired from service with 846 Naval Air Squadron (NAS) on 31 March, it was announced in late May.rnThe Mk 6CRs, which were introduced on 21 May 2004, were predominately used for routine tasking and training in the UK, but were also deployed to Bosnia in 2004-05 to support Operation 'Oculus'.rnCommander Niall Griffin, commanding officer of 846 NAS, based at RNAS Yeovilton, Somerset, told Jane's: "The demise of the Sea King Mk 6CR is an extremely sad occasion, not only for myself but for all those that have flown and supported this tremendously versatile aircraft."
