Israel could set a new record in defence sales in 2010, hitting USD8 billion by year-end, Ministry of Defence (MoD) Director General Udi Shani told Jane's.rnIsrael was fourth behind the United States, Russia and France in defence exports in 2009, reaching USD7.5 billion in new contracts, MoD figures show.rn"My ultimate goal is to have consistent sales of between USD7 billion and USD 10 billion annually, which I think is possible," said Shani, a former Israel Defence Force (IDF) general who was appointed MoD director general in January, ahead of the Eurosatory 2010 trade show in Paris. "This is the most lucrative industry for the state of Israel," he said.
