The Australian government has given second pass approval for a programme to upgrade the Australian Army's Australian Light Armoured Vehicle (ASLAV).rnThe AUD300 million (USD250 million) programme, under phase 4 of Project Land 112, plans to deliver 113 upgraded vehicles. The first deliveries are expected in 2012, although this schedule may be "significantly expedited" following an internal review, said the Australian Department of Defence (DoD) in a statement on 1 June. The DoD added that the ASLAV enhance-rnments will provide increased protection against a "wider range of threats - including improvised explosive devices - by improving ballistic, fragmentation and blast protection". The project will also see improvements to the vehicle's suspension, driveline and engine.
