摘要

Anew UN resolution imposing targeted sanctions on Iran for its failure to abandon its nuclear programme does not impede the sale of Russian S-300PMU1 air-defence systems to the Islamic Republic, senior US and Russian officials have said.rnThe debate over the sale, worth USD800 million at the time the contract was signed in 2005, however, has continued both publicly and behind closed doors in Russia. On 11 June the Russian Foreign Ministry said that the sale would proceed; a day later a statement from the Kremlin said that it would not.
