After several years of development, the first example of the General Dynamics European Land Systems (GDELS) - MOWAG Piranha Class 5 8x8 wheeled armoured vehicle was unveiled at Eurosatory on 15 June. This has been developed as a private venture following customer feedback calling for an 8x8 vehicle with a higher level of protection, pay-load and volume than currently deployed vehicles.rnThe Piranha Class 5 can be used for a wide range of battlefield roles. However, the example unveiled at Eurosatory is in a typical infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) configuration, which, in addition to its crew of two, carries nine dismounts.
