Despite a forecasted improvement in Japan's economy over the next few years, an official in the Japanese Ministry of Defence (MoD) has indicated to Jane's that defence budget decreases are expected to continue, prolonging a trend that has lasted a decade.rnOn 22 June Japan's Cabinet Office released a report in which it raised its forecasted national GDP growth from 1.4 per cent to 2.6 per cent in the current fiscal year and at least 2 per cent in the year thereafter. If such levels are achieved, it would see Japan attain GDP growth of more than 2 per cent for the first time since 2006.
