East African heads of state meeting on the sidelines of the African Union (AU) summit in Kampala, the Ugandan capital, in early July, are expected to debate a proposal to deploy additional troops to Somalia as part of the Eastern Africa Standby Brigade (EASBRIG).rnAn EASBRIG official told Jane's on 1 July that defence ministers meeting in Nairobi in mid-June had reached an agreement on a proposal that would deploy 2,000 additional personnel to Somalia to supplement the existing 6,000-strong contingent that forms the AU Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).
