UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) procurement officials are working to reduce the cost of buying three Boeing RC-135 Rivetjoint electronic intelligence-gathering aircraft by GBP200 million (USD305 million) during negotiations with equipment suppliers, Jane's has learned.rnDetails of an apparent value-for-money drive first emerged when the UK Minister for Defence Equipment, Support and Technology, Peter Luff, told parliament on 1 July that the through-life cost of the programme was now estimated at GBP1.2 billion. The announcement came just weeks after the MoD told Jane's in June that GBP1.4 billion had been set aside for the programme, which is named 'Airseeker'.
