Myanmar's armed forces are undergoing a major turnover of senior military officials amid preparations for November elections and heightened jingoism against ceasefire groups.rnInternal orders dated 27 August, obtained by Jane's, announce the promotion of 45 officers to senior administrative and command positions within the Tatmadaw or armed forces, including the head of military intelligence, the six bureaux of special operations (BSOs), all 13 regional commands and 12 of the army's 31 combat divisions. A Western diplomatic source in Yangon also confirmed to Jane's that Lieutenant General Min Aung Hlaing has been appointed to the third-ranking slot as Joint Chief of Staff, displacing General Shwe Mann.
