The US Navy's (USN's) troubled Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) programme is facing further delays due to major subsystem failures and poor management of the testing schedules for the modular mission packages, according to a 31 August report by the US Government Accountability Office (GAO).rnFebruary's highly publicised, two-year early deployment of USS Freedom (LCS 1) pushed back operational testing of onboard mission packages by three years, the USN's original scheme for LCS anti-submarine warfare (ASW) capabilities does "not contribute significantly to the [ASW] mission" and the first two sea-frames still suffer from unresolved technical issues, the GAO has said.
