US President Barack Obama's administration is shaking up its national security team as James Jones is being replaced by his deputy, Tom Donilon, as the president's national security adviser.rnReports indicate Donilon has essentially been playing the role of national security adviser, while Jones, a retired US Marine Corps general, has been engaged in diplomacy with other nations.rnShortly after the presidential election in 2008 Jones agreed to take the post under the stipulation that he only stayed on for about two years, Obama said in a speech on 8 October. Jones is leaving slightly earlier than planned, but policy continuity is expected since Donilon is largely viewed as closer to the president.
