Beijing has introduced legislation that will seek to reinforce existing controls over the quality of indigenously manufactured military equipment.rnChina's State Council said in a statement that the "weapons and equipment quality control regulations" were ratified on 8 October by Premier Wen Jiabao and President Hu Jintao; the latter is also chairman of the CentralrnMilitary Commission (CMC).rnThe measures, which come into effect on 1 November, call on state-owned defencernenterprises to strengthen quality control systems related to evaluation, research and development, production, testing and maintenance of equipment. Military items specified by the legislation include weapons, equipment, computer software, components, ancillary products and raw materials.
