Romanian troops in Afghanistan have received the first eight of 60 mine-resistant ambush-protected (MRAP) vehicles being donated by the US.rnThe Mavistar Defense MaxxPro Dash vehicles joined the 811th Transylvanian Dragons manoeuvre battalion and the 812th Carpathian Eagles manoeuvre battalion in mid-October. Both battalions are stationed in Zabul province, southern Afghanistan. Romanian military sources said that "using the MRAPs, the troops of the two battalions will have increased protection against attacks from lEDs [improvised explosive devices] andrnsmall-calibre guns, the MRAP armour configuration being superior to that of theHumvee".
