The Japanese Ministry of Defence (MoD) has opted to replace Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd's UH-60J search-and-rescue helicopter with the updated version of the aircraft, it announced on 5 November.rnThe upgraded version is equipped with an airborne collision avoidance system and satellite communication system and offers better performance for a lower price than the current UH-60J, which costs between JPY5 billion and JPY6 billion (USD61 million to USD74 million).rnThe modernised UH-60J, Kawasaki Heavy Industries' KE101 and Eurocopter Japan Co's EC725 had been competing for the Japanese Air Self-Defence Force's next-generation search-and-rescue helicopter.
