Kazakhstan has signed several agreements with foreign manufacturers aimed at ramping up production in its domestic defence industry.rnThe largest of the deals is between Kazakhstan Engineering, the state-owned defence holding company, and Eurocopter.rnThe two firms have agreed a joint venture (JV) to produce EC145 utility helicopters in Astana, Kazakhstan. As part of the deal, Kazakhstan's Ministry of Defence (MoD) will buy 45 of the helicopters, which will be known as the KH145, over a six-year period. The first will be completed in late 2011, company officials said.
