The UK is to retain the three F-35B initial operational test and evaluation (IOT&E) Joint Strike Fighters (JSFs) it signed up for in March 2009 despite cancelling its plans to procure the short take-off and vertical-landing (STOVL) variant in favour of the F-35C carrier variant (CV), it was announced on 16 November.rnAnswering questions in the House of Commons, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State (DefencernPersonnel, Welfare and Veterans) Andrew Robathan told MPs that there is enough commonality between the two variants of Lockheed Martin's JSF to continue with the F-35B IOT&E purchase.
