Pratt & Whitney has delivered the first F-135B production engine for the F-35 Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter short take-off/vertical landing (STOVL) variant, a company official has told Jane's. F-35 prime contractor Lockheed Martin will install the engine in the first F-35B STOVL production aircraft. Meanwhile, Pratt & Whitney is engaging in negotiations with the US government for a new production contract that could make the company responsible for paying any unforeseen cost overruns.
