The Austrian Air Force has expressed an interest in acquiring a number of surplus Aero Vodochody L-159 light attack and training aircraft from the Czech Republic to fill its requirement for a new trainer. "Technical parameters [of a replacement aircraft] are not the only factors involved in the final decision; what will ultimately determine the procurement decision is what our budget will allow," said General Edmund Entacher, chief of general staff of the Austrian armed forces, during a visit to the Czech Republic on 15 December. The air force is seeking to replace its ageing fleet of 40 Saab 105 trainers with a more modern trainer with glass cockpit avionics.
