Italy's IVECO-Defence Vehicle Division (DVD) is to supply 150 Light Multirole Vehicles (LMVs) to the Austrian Army to meet a requirement for light mine-protected vehicles. The EUR104 million (USD136 million) contract was confirmed by Austrian Defence Minister Norbert Darabos and Austrian Armed Forces Chief of Defence Staff General Edmund Entacher in Vienna on 14 January during a press briefing detailing forthcoming defence acquisitions worth EUR325 million until 2013 and EUR481 million by 2016. The decision to contract IVECO, a 100 per cent subsidiary of Fiat, was reached in mid-October 2008 but negotiations continued until the end of 2008. Austria is the eighth customer for the seven-tonne 4×4 following Italy, the UK, Spain, Belgium, Croatia, the Czech Republic and Norway.
