The US Department of Defense (DoD) is developing a national cybersecurity testbed in an effort to 'jump-start' new technologies to protect government computer systems. The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) announced on 8 January that it had awarded contracts valued at USD30 million to seven companies for the first phase of the National Cyber Range (NCR) programme. DARPA said that the project will provide a real-world simulation environment that organisations will be able to use to "develop, field and test new leap-ahead concepts", accelerating government research and development into cybersecurity.
