Decentralised Data Fusion (DDF) is a multi-sensor, multi-platform data fusion capability that delivers bandwidth reduction and shared awareness across the battle-space sensing network. Unlike a traditional network, with a central processing and communications hub, DDF allows disparate users of the network to share information without requiring knowledge of other users and is robust to dynamic reconfiguration as users join and leave the network. In a demonstration for the Australian Defence Force at Puckapunyal, a DDF capability was deployed across a sensing network of UAVs, ground radars and troops to generate a single data-sharing net. The demon-rnstration displayed the ability for a user - for instance a UAV - to remain fully aware of tracked targets within the environment without them needing to track them itself.
