Twelve of the 24 Boeing F/A-18E/F Super Hornets to be delivered to the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) are to be rewired to enable a future upgrading to the EA-18G Growler electronic warfare configuration, the Australian Department of Defence announced on 27 February.rnA statement said that the rewiring of the Super Hornets -which will take place while the aircraft are on the production line -will cost AUD35 million (US022 million) and allow the aircraft to be upgraded. Jane's understands that although the move to upgrade to Growler configuration is being considered and evaluated as part of the defence White Paper - which is scheduled for release in April - a decision on whether to proceed is not required until late 2011 or early 2012 when the second tranche of 12 Super Hornets are due for delivery.
