The UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) has finally approved quantity production of the BAE Systems Global Combat Systems Terrier Manoeuvre Support Vehicle (MSV). The green light for Terrier quantity production was announced during a visit to northern England by the Minister for Defence Equipment and Support, Quentin Davies. The original projected in-service date (ISD) for the first batch of 20 Terriers was scheduled for late 2008 but this has slipped on several occasions and at one time it is understood that the programme could have been cancelled. Production of the Terrier MSV is expected to commence in 2010 with an expected ISD of around 2013. In the meantime the CET has been withdrawn from service with the Royal Engineers. A number of JCB High Mobility Engineer Excavators have been purchased to provide a partial interim capability. The production contract is worth approximately GBP300 million (USD429 million) and the new production line is now being laid down at Newcastle-upon-Type with 90 per cent of manufacture being provided by UK companies.
