The Czech Ministry of Defence (MoD) is preparing to continue the consolidation of state-owned military repair facilities as it gears up for local production of Pandur II 8×8 armoured vehicles and looks towards diversification into civilian sectors. Plans to merge the VOP-025 Novy Jicin and VOP-026 Sternberk repair facilities that specialist in the repair, maintenance and upgrade of tanks and armoured vehicles for the Army of the Czech Republic were confirmed to Jane's on 24 March. MoD spokesman Andrej Cirtek said: "The ministry is currently laying the groundwork, including drawing up a legal framework for the merger of the two repair facilities. Work on the merger process is expected to occur during the course of this year." Senior management at the two repair facilities said the merger is part of a greater effort on the part of the MoD to take advantage of existing synergies and maximise efficiency.
