Turkey is to acquire a Goktiirk electro-optical (EO) reconnaissance and surveillance satellite system, enabling it to gather its own real-time intelligence and to sell imagery internationally, it has been announced.rnThe Turkish Defence Industries Undersecretariat (SSM) signed a EUR250 million (USD355.9 million) deal for the system with Italy's Finmeccanica SpA and Telespazio, a subsidiary of Thales and Finmeccanica. Local partners in the project will include Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI), Aselsan, Roketsan and Turksat AS. Turkey's Technological and Scientific Research Board (TUBITAK) will also participate.
