UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown announced a package of 'additional' intelligence, surveillance, targeting and reconnaissance (ISTAR) and counter-improvised explosive device (IED) equipment to support UK troops in Afghanistan during a visit to the country on 29 August.rnThis included the deployment of 200 additional explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) specialists, the purchase of 20 new Force Protection Ridgback protected patrol vehicles and extra flying hours for Royal Air Force (RAF) and British Army unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
