The United States and Mongolia concluded their annual joint military exercise, Khaan Quest 09', just as Russia began its own military exercise with Mongolia.rnThe 11 -day exercise, held at the Five Hills Peacekeeping Operations Training Center of Ulaanbaatar, involved approximately 500 soldiers from Mongolia, 150 US personnel and 300 troops from other Asian countries.rnThe US started the exercise in 2003 after Mongolia sent a small contingent of soldiers to the US-led coalition in Iraq. Mongolia ended its participation there in 2008, but in September it will send about 150 soldiers to Afghanistan to perform perimeter security duties.
