The UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) has formally announced a GBP408 million (USD656.4 million) programme to upgrade its fleet of Boeing Chinook HC.2/2A medium/heavy-lift transport helicopters, known as Project Julius. Speaking at the home of the UK's Chinook fleet at Royal Air Force (RAF) Odiham in Hampshire on 24 September, Quentin Davies, Minister for Defence Equipment and Support, said the entire fleet of 48 aircraft will be fitted with more powerful engines and a digital cockpit.
