India is encouraging leading domestic firms to bid for more production contracts and to establish joint ventures and production arrangements with foreign companies through a revision of defence procurement procedures (DPPs).rnThis will allow request for proposals (RfPs) - which were earlier despatched only to foreign companies - to be issued to private Indian industries that have "requisite financial and technical capabilities to absorb technology", the Indian Ministry of Defence (MoD) announced on 27 October.
