摘要

Anew shipment of US-purchased small arms and light weapons destined for the Somali transitional government and African Union peacekeepers supporting it has docked in the port of Mogadishu, sources told Jane's on 28 October. The shipment is the second delivered by the US under its policy to support the government of President Sheikh Ahmed Sheikh Sharif, which controls just a few blocks of the capital and remains under siege by extremist insurgents, some of whom have links to Al-Qaeda.rnIt is unclear, however, how helpful the US arms will be for the government; after a first shipment arrived in August, witnesses reported seeing many of the weapons for sale in Mogadishu's main Bakara market.
