Europe's naval industry is becoming redundant and its future hinges on the launch of continent-wide co-operative projects, the head of the European Defence Agency, Alexander Weis, has said.rn"The current European naval DTIB [defence technological industrial base] offers in many aspects very sophisticated products, but it needs to be stated: innovation clearly does not come from the export but from the domestic market," he said. "The current naval DTIB is characterised by overcapacities, fragmentation and redundant structures."
