Several major UK-based defence companies have formed high-level management teams to negotiate with the country's Ministry of Defence (MoD) to mitigate the impact on their operations of proposed cuts to procurement programmes.rnA budget shortfall of up to GBP2 billion (USD3.9 billion) in the UK's Defence Planning Round 08, which is intended to set all defence spending over the next three years, has left defence companies concerned that a number of major UKrnprocurement projects could be shrunk, delayed or even cancelled.rnAccording to senior industry sources, BAE Systems, AgustaWestland, Rolls-Royce and at leastfour other major UK-based defence companies have formed special management teams, led by board-level executives, to open negotiations with the MoD. The teams have first been trying to assess the impact on their companies of the proposed cuts to the UK's Equipment Programme 08, which details major procurement spending over the next 10 years.
