Germany has launched a requirement for a light multirole missile (MehrrollenfaehigesleichtesLenk-flugkorpersystem - MELLS) to equip the army's future fleet of Puma armoured infantry fighting vehicles (AIFVs), infantry and engineer units as well as special forces (Kommando Spe-zialkraefte-KSK).rnThe missile is to be used to defeat a wide range of targets from bunkers and armoured vehicles to low-flying helicopters. The MILAN anti-tank missile currently fielded by the army no longer meets requirements and stocks will be exhausted by 2014.
