摘要

Israel successfully launched its first synthetic aperture radar (SAR) reconnaissance satellite from India on 21 January, providing it with dayight all-weather imagery intelligence capabilities.rnBranded TECSAR, the satellite was launched on board a Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) from the Indian Space Research Organisation's (ISRO's) Satish Dhawan Space Centre in southeast India at 0345 h GMT.rnThe TECSAR was placed in low-earth orbit, at an altitude of 550 km, by the four-stage PSLV and began transmitting signals 80 minutes after the launch. Initial imagery from the remote sensing satellite is expected in two weeks. "This satellite will enable a dramatic improvement in Israel's intelligence-gathering capabilities as it provides imagery regardless of night or cloud conditions," General Eitan Ben-Elyahu, former commander of the Israel Air Force, told Jane's. "Currently, there is no other SAR satellite in the world with the same capabilities."
