The Afghan Air Corps (AAC) is to develop a close air support (CAS) capability by 2013, according to the head of the Combined Air Power Transition Force (CAPTF) in Afghanistan. Speaking on 24 January, the commander of CAPTF, US Air Force (USAF) Brigadier General Jay H Lindell, explained that a fixed-wing combat capability will initially be United States-led until Afghan pilots are trained in the role by 2013-14.
