An incursion by Colombian forces into Ecuador has sparked a regional crisis, with Ecuador and Venezuela reinforcing their borders and Colombian officials accusing Venezuela of sponsoring terrorism. Colombian forces staged a heliborne assault against the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (Fuerzas Armadas Rev-olucionarias de Colombia - FARC) on 1 March. According to an official press statement, Colombian forces organised the raid against FARC's 48th Front in Granada on the Colombian side of the border with Ecuador with the aim of capturing a member of the organisation's high command.
