Military contracting - and the role of private security contractors - is shaping up as an issue in the 2008 US presidential campaign. On 28 February Hillary Clinton, one of the two leading Democratic presidential candidates, announced that she was co-sponsoring legislation to ban the use of private security companies (PSCs) in Iraq. "From this war's very beginning, this administration has permitted thousands of heavily armed military contractors to march through Iraq without any law or court to rein them in or hold them accountable," she said in a statement.
