France's Microturbo unveiled its new TR-3 single-use turbojet engine for missiles or unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) at the Eurosatory 2008 exhibition and hopes to have received a pre-production order before mid-2009, according to a company official. The TR-3 is a small power-dense engine, weighing 4 kg but generating 30 daN at a high 100,000 rpm, equating to a top speed of M0.8 depending on the aerodynamic and weight constraints of its host platform. According to the company, the TR-3 is capable of operating at up to 30,000 ft and has a length of 330 mm (excluding the alternator, which can generate 800 W) and a maximum diameter of 130 mm (excluding some ancillary equipment).
