A senior spokesman from Nammo's demilitarisation division has told Jane's that the Dublin Convention on Cluster Munitions presented the company's "biggest business opportunity ever". Eduard Herbst, marketing director of the division, noted that the convention in May concluded with the adoption of measures to outlaw the use and stockpiling of a wide range of cluster munitions, which means "huge potential for us". He said that Nammo, which is owned jointly by Finland's Patria and the Norwegian government, predicted several years ago that the ban would come into force. The company has spent about EUR3 million (USD4.7 million) upgrading its three main demilitarisation facilities over the last two years, looking to increase their capacity to dismantle munitions. Herbst highlighted the Nammo Buck site at Pinnow, nearthe border between Germany and Poland, as a cluster munitions demilitarisation specialist, having built up a substantial amount of experience filling Soviet-designed bombs and rockets with submu-nitions before the reunification of Germany.
